VALIANT ELEGANCE was slow to begin and shifted out, resulting in SPLENDID STAR, which was also slow to begin, being crowded for room inside BOYS PARTY which shifted in on jumping. After this, despite being vigorously ridden along for some distance, VALIANT ELEGANCE was slow to muster speed.
FORTUNE HAPPINESS began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PANZERSCHRECK.
EIGHT TRIGRAMS, which was fractious in the barriers, turned its head to the right as the start was effected and began only fairly. The Stewards will interview H T Mo, the rider of EIGHT TRIGRAMS, regarding the horse being positioned back in the field tonight.
MOERAKI shifted out at the start and bumped HANDSOME BOY, resulting in HANDSOME BOY being taken out towards the heels of EVERYONE’S VICTORY. After this, from a wide barrier, HANDSOME BOY was shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 300 Metres, VALIANT ELEGANCE was shifted to the inside of UTOPIA LIFE when disappointed for running to the outside of that horse and inside HANDSOME GUYS. After this, VALIANT ELEGANCE had difficulty obtaining clear running behind UTOPIA LIFE until after the 100 Metres.
Throughout the race, FIERY DIAMOND and FORTUNE HAPPINESS travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of VALIANT ELEGANCE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
EVERYONE’S VICTORY and FIERY DIAMOND were sent for sampling.
