K-JACK was withdrawn on 4.5.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter INVINCIBLEKINDNESS. Before being allowed to race again, K-JACK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUGAR ON TOP was slow to begin. On jumping, INVINCIBLEKINDNESS was taken back from the outside barrier. TOP NEWS was slow into stride. BLEDISLOE began awkwardly. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, GLENEALY STAR lost ground when crowded for room inside HAPPY GO LUCKY which got its head on the side while hanging and shifted in momentarily. At the same time, FAVOURITE SUPREME was checked when crowded for room inside SUPER SNIPPETS which initially was carried in by TOP NEWS which got its head on the side and shifted in away from BLEDISLOE. As SUPER SNIPPETS was being carried in, it then became awkwardly placed close to the heels of GLENEALY STAR and shifted in further. In all the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it appropriate to take action against any one rider. Also making the turn at the 1000 Metres, COUNTRY MAGIC became unbalanced behind after being bumped by BLEDISLOE which shifted out. In the early and middle stages, COUNTRY MAGIC raced wide and without cover. Near the 800 Metres, SUPER SNIPPETS, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GLENEALY STAR. Near the 700 Metres, INVINCIBLEKINDNESS bounded in the air on two occasions, became unbalanced and lost a considerable amount of ground. Trainer J Size was told a warning would be placed on INVINCIBLEKINDNESS and should it perform similarly in the future, further action may be taken. Near the 100 Metres, HAPPY GO LUCKY was shifted out from behind WINE WIN into clear running. After the 50 Metres, SEASON LINKZ shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of GLENEALY STAR. Because of this, M W Leung, the rider of SEASON LINKZ, stopped riding and straightened his mount. Close to the winning post, BLEDISLOE was steadied when awkwardly placed between SUPER SNIPPETS and TOP NEWS which was shifting in. Y T Cheng (FAVOURITE SUPREME) explained he felt in the early stages of the race he might be able to obtain a midfield position, however, after receiving interference at the 1000 Metres FAVOURITE SUPREME came off the bit and did not travel well at any stage of the race afterwards. FAVOURITE SUPREME was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FAVOURITE SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. GLENEALY STAR and LONGWAH RISING were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that BLEDISLOE had lost its right hind plate.
