SUPER SURPRISE was withdrawn on 22.9.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MASTER DREAMER (D Whyte). Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SURPRISE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 1400 Metres, DASHING THUNDER and FANTASTIC DANCER were momentarily crowded for room inside GALLANT MASTER which shifted in. Passing the 200 Metres, EVER KING was checked and LUCKY MONEY steadied when crowded for room between MASTER DREAMER which shifted in slightly and GRAND GENERAL (G Cheyne) which shifted out under pressure. As the Stewards formed the view that EVER KING did not properly establish clear running between MASTER DREAMER and LUCKY MONEY, G Cheyne was severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he must make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. Passing the 100 Metres, DASHING THUNDER was bumped by WONG’S FAVOURITE which shifted out. When questioned, Apprentice M Chadwick (GALLANT MASTER) stated that he had been instructed to obtain a position with cover on the horse if possible around midfield. He said that passing the 1600 Metres he felt he may be able to obtain a position behind MASTER DREAMER and in front of FANTASTIC DANCER, however, horses to his inside improved their position underneath him which resulted in him not being able to take this position. He said when he was then obliged to travel wide and without cover, he elected to improve his position in the hope of obtaining a position with cover, however, he was not able to do so and consequently remained racing wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of GALLANT MASTER after the race did not show any significant findings. GALLANT MASTER, GRAND GENERAL and MASTER DREAMER were sent for sampling.
