KEEN SOUL was withdrawn on 22.9.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial mucopus in trachea on scoping after track work) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BLEDISLOE (Z Purton). Before being allowed to race again, KEEL SOUL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TELECOM SUPER STAR was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, BLEDISLOE was taken back to a position near the rear in the early stages. RAINBOW SEEKER began awkwardly. Making the turn passing the 600 Metres, LONGWAH RISING got its head up and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of LOYAL ARMY. In this incident, GOOD STRIKE and K-JACK, which were racing outside LONGWAH RISING, were taken wider. Passing the 500 Metres, TELECOM SUPER STAR bumped the hindquarters of VAUGIRARD. As a result of this contact, VAUGIRARD became unbalanced and shifted in, resulting in TELECOM SUPER STAR being hampered. Throughout the race, THUNDER FLASH travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of THUNDER FLASH after the race did not show any significant findings. LOYAL ARMY, GOOD STRIKE and LONGWAH RISING were sent for sampling.
