GO FAY FAY was slow to begin. GOOD TO GO, which began awkwardly, was crowded for room shortly after the start between VAUGIRARD and LONGWAH RISING which shifted out. Near the 900 Metres, VAUGIRARD was steadied when crowded for room inside GOOD STRIKE which was taken in by KINGIFLY (C K Tong) which shifted in when not clear. C K Tong was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure he leaves sufficient racing room for his fellow riders in future. C K Tong stated that after this he looked to his inside on a number of occasions to ascertain whether he was clear of GOOD STRIKE so that he could shift in to a position closer to the fence. He said it was not until near the 600 Metres that GOOD STRIKE shifted across to the fence that he was able to shift across and race in a one off position. Near the 800 Metres, KEEN SOUL, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of EASY. KEEN SOUL continued to prove difficult to settle and travelled wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. GOOD TO GO made the Home Turn awkwardly and became unbalanced. G Cheyne (GO FAY FAY) dropped his right rein near the 200 Metres. For a short distance passing the 200 Metres, EASY was steadied away from the heels of KINGIFLY, then over the concluding stages EASY was not able to be ridden out when racing close to the heels of KINGIFLY. HOLEY DOLLAR and GOOD STRIKE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that KINGIFLY had sustained a cut to the left hind leg as a result of being galloped on.
