GOLD JOINT began awkwardly. LOTUS LOVE was slow to begin. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GOLD JOINT got its head on the side and shifted out, resulting in TAI HANG’S PRIDE being steadied. After this, GOLD JOINT proved difficult to settle and continued to race with its head on the side. Passing the 1300 Metres, LUCKY TYCOON was momentarily crowded for room inside LOTUS LOVE. At the 1200 Metres, HOME WITH GLORY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BLEDISLOE. For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, BLEDISLOE was steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND RAINBOW. Passing the 500 Metres, HOME WITH GLORY shifted out and bumped LOTUS LOVE. In the Straight, LOTUS LOVE raced greenly and on two occasions got its head on the side and shifted in. The performance of DIAMOND RAINBOW, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND RAINBOW will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GOOD FORTUNE, J Lloyd stated that the horse hung out throughout the race and near the 1000 Metres was checked out across the heels of ESPERANZA. He said making the turn passing the 600 Metres GOOD FORTUNE got its head on the side, hung out badly and shifted wider. He said, in his opinion, GOOD FORTUNE did not handle the Happy Valley circuit although he was aware that the horse had raced here previously. A veterinary inspection of GOOD FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. HOME WITH GLORY, FLORAL PICASSO and MASTER DREAMER were sent for sampling.
