Whilst being paraded, it was noted that DANESOUTH had blood in its mouth. DANESOUTH was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had sustained a cut to the tongue and which necessitated the tongue tie being replaced. He said, in his opinion, DANESOUTH was suitable to race. DANESOUTH was again inspected on arrival at the barriers by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Just prior to the start being effected, both INFALLIBLE CHOICE and INCREDIBLE EAGLE were fractious in the barriers. ROYAL PORTRAIT and CARISSIMA were crowded for room at the start between LIONS` FORTUNE and GRANDFIELD which shifted out. From the outside barrier, INFALLIBLE CHOICE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After being ridden along in the early stages to take up a forward position from a wide barrier, HEXAGON commenced to over-race near the 1100 Metres and despite the efforts of its rider, continued to be very difficult to settle until rounding the Home Turn. After the 1000 Metres, CARISSIMA was left racing wide and without cover and making the first turn got its head on the side and hung out. CARISSIMA then continued to hang out until after straightening. For some distance approaching and passing the 700 Metres, GRANDFIELD was steadied away from the heels of INCREDIBLE EAGLE. Passing the 350 Metres, T Angland (CARISSIMA) dropped his whip. A veterinary inspection of CARISSIMA after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GRANDFIELD had been cut into its left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, GRANDFIELD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, INFALLIBLE CHOICE was reported to be lame in the left hind leg by the Veterinary Surgeon. Before being allowed to race again, INFALLIBLE CHOICE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LIONS` FORTUNE and BAYVIEW GREYSLEW were sent for sampling.
