From the outside barrier, FORTUNE RED PEPPER got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied across behind runners. For some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, HAPPY TUMBLER got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of RIDE WITH THE WIND. Passing the 1000 Metres, FORTUNE RED PEPPER shifted out when being checked away from the heels of NEEDLES AND THREAD which itself shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of OPERATION SECRET. Passing the 150 Metres, HAPPY TUMBLER, when being shifted to the outside of the heels of DREAM TEAM, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. OPERATION SECRET had difficulty obtaining clear running in the Straight. Throughout the race, IRON FIST travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of IRON FIST, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, IRON FIST will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The declaration of weighed-in was delayed when M Chadwick, the rider of DREAM TEAM, 2nd placegetter, was obliged to walk back to the scale when DREAM TEAM required veterinary attention after finishing the race. The Veterinary Officer reported that DREAM TEAM was found to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DREAM TEAM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that EUPHEMISM was making an abnormal breathing noise and an endoscopic examination confirmed the horse to be an early “roarer”. RIDE WITH THE WIND and DREAM TEAM were sent for sampling.
