MAJESTIC HEART began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in EXCEPTIONAL ART being crowded out onto SUPER BOY which in turn shifted out and bumped TAVERNER which resulted in its rider, Apprentice K C Leung, becoming badly unbalanced in the saddle. TAVERNER then shifted out of its own accord, resulting in PENGLAI XIANZI, which began very awkwardly and blundered, being crowded for room inside SICHUAN SUCCESS. QUICK TOUCH was crowded for room at the start between ADMIRATION and JUN QI which shifted out. After this, QUICK TOUCH was ridden along to obtain a forward position. Passing the 1200 Metres, TAVERNER was steadied away from the heels of SICHUAN SUCCESS. PENGLAI XIANZI, which was following TAVERNER, got its head up and was checked to avoid the heels of TAVERNER. CORPORAL JONES, which was following PENGLAI XIANZI, was hampered in consequence and PRESTO, which was racing to the outside of PENGLAI XIANZI, was also inconvenienced. Approaching the 1100 Metres, SUPER BOY was steadied away from the heels of LOYAL ARMY which at this tine was steadied to allow ADMIRATION to cross. Near the 800 Metres, GRAND DANCER was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 200 Metres, EXCEPTIONAL ART, which was obtaining a tight run to the inside of QUICK TOUCH which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied when crowded inside that horse. A short distance later, EXCEPTIONAL ART was again steadied when crowded for room inside QUICK TOUCH, which when continuing to give ground, got its head on the side and lay in. Because of this, EXCEPTIONAL ART was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Over the concluding stages, PENGLAI XIANZI was steadied away from the heels of TAVERNER. In the Straight, JUN QI got its head on the side and shifted out on a number of occasions, resulting in its rider having to straighten the horse. A veterinary inspection of EXCEPTIONAL ART after the race did not show any significant findings. SICHUAN SUCCESS and ADMIRATION were sent for sampling.
