OPERATION SECRET began awkwardly and shortly after the start was momentarily crowded for room between VITALITY EXPRESS and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD which shifted in. Shortly after the start, CHEER was steadied when crowded for room between VITALITY EXPRESS and DESTINED FOR GLORY which shifted out after being bumped by FEARLESS. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ABSOLUTE HEDGE momentarily raced in restricted room inside DESTINED FOR GLORY. Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, KYARA proved very difficult to settle when being steadied to allow VITALITY EXPRESS to cross. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, KYARA again proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of THE UNTOUCHABLELAD. Near the 500 Metres, OPERATION SECRET was bumped on a number of occasions and taken wider by VIGOR DELIGHT which shifted out to improve. Near the 250 Metres, DESTINED FOR GLORY was hampered when crowded for room between VITALITY EXPRESS and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD which, after getting its head on the side and shifting in of its own accord, was taken in by KYARA which got its head on the side and hung in badly despite the efforts of its rider. In the circumstances, no further action was taken. Near the 200 Metres, CHEER had difficulty obtaining clear running. Passing the 200 Metres, UPGRADING was hampered and taken wider by ABSOLUTE HEDGE which got its head on the side and shifted out. Near the 50 Metres, CHEER momentarily raced tight inside VITALITY EXPRESS which shifted in. VITALITY EXPRESS was then straightened by its rider. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DESTINED FOR GLORY, D Beadman stated that his mount travelled well behind the leaders until the 500 Metres. He said at this time the pace of the race quickened and DESTINED FOR GLORY was not able to respond to the change in tempo. He said rounding the Home Turn DESTINED FOR GLORY came off the bridle and because of this the horse was not able to take advantage of a run shortly after entering into the Straight between VITALITY EXPRESS and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD. He said although DESTINED FOR GLORY was crowded for room near the 250 Metres, the horse was somewhat disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding after this. He added that over the concluding stages DESTINED FOR GLORY raced in restricted room between VITALITY EXPRESS and KYARA and because of this he was not able to ride the horse out fully to the end of the race. He said irrespective of this, DESTINED FOR GLORY was a beaten horse at this time. A veterinary inspection of DESTINED FOR GLORY and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD after the race did not show any significant findings. DESTINED FOR GLORY, FEARLESS and CHEER were sent for sampling.
