SUPER STRIKE and MR MARFACH were slow to begin. From a wide barrier, JADE PINS was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Making the first turn after the winning post, SUPER STRIKE was momentarily awkwardly placed inside GOLDMEN Y Y which shifted in marginally when brushed by YOUNG HERO. Approaching the 700 Metres, KENSWORTH KID was hampered when disappointed for running between TELECOM GOGO and VICTORY MASCOT which shifted out marginally. Close to the finishing line, W C Marwing (TRES MAGNIFIQUE) dropped his right rein. In the Straight, MR MARFACH got its head on the side and hung out. For the major part of the race, TRES MAGNIFIQUE travelled wide and without cover. Trainer S Woods advised that as KENSWORTH KID had not been finishing off its races satisfactorily from inside draws, from barrier 12 today, it was decided to ride the horse more quietly in an attempt to have it finish off the race. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUNNY SKY, W Pike stated that passing the 1400 Metres his mount commenced to race keenly when MR MARFACH improved to his outside. He said after this SUNNY SKY travelled better and after the 600 Metres appeared to be travelling well enough to be in contention at the finish of the race. He said that after the 500 Metres he placed SUNNY SKY under pressure to improve its position, however, the horse quickly came off the bridle and weakened out of the race noticeably. He did say that for the major part of the race SUNNY SKY appeared to be handling the track conditions, however, having in mind the manner in which the horse weakened out of the race, it may be that it did not handle the prevailing conditions in this race. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY SKY after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on JADE PINS at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, JADE PINS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of VICTORY MASCOT and SUPER STRIKE after the race did not show any significant findings. SUNNY SKY, TRES MAGNIFIQUE and INDUSTRIAL LEGEND were sent for sampling.
