After arriving at the barriers, the Veterinary Officer said that SHINING TREASURES, which was reported to have kicked a rail on the way to the Start, was found to be suitable to race. BOSAMBO was checked at the start when badly crowded for room between PUBIC FIGURE and FULGURITE which shifted in abruptly. In this incident, PUBLIC FIGURE also became badly unbalanced. WHY NOT was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SHINING TREASURES and BREEZE OF LUCK were crowded for room between ISTIDE which shifted out after being bumped by SCENT OF OSMANTHUS and VICTORY IDE SAY which was taken in by FERRABOSCO which shifted ground despite the efforts of its rider. H W Lai (SUPER PEPPER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1500 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in at an acute angle when not clear of FULGURITE, resulting in that horse being hampered and taken in across the rightful running of PUBLIC FIGURE which as a result was hampered and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. H W Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 9 July 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 1 July 2012. In addition, H W Lai was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. After the 1200 Metres, FULGURITE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WHY NOT. Passing the 400 Metres, ISTIDE became unbalanced after being bumped by BOSAMBO which shifted out in an endeavour to improve between that horse and FERRABOSCO. Passing the 300 Metres, BOSAMBO was steadied when disappointed for running between ISTIDE and FERRABOSCO which shifted out. Passing the 200 Metres, BOSAMBO was inconvenienced when bumped by FORTUNE BRAVO which shifted out. Close to the finishing line, BOSAMBO was steadied away from the heels of SHINING TREASURES which, when finishing off the race fairly, was taken out marginally by FORTUNE BRAVO. Because of this, SHINING TREASURES was not able to proceed into tight running between FORTUNE BRAVO and FERRABOSCO and as a consequence could not be fully tested. Throughout the race, ISTIDE travelled wide and without cover. The performance of PUBLIC FIGURE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PUBLIC FIGURE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SUPER PEPPER had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of BOSAMBO and PERFECT TEN after the race did not show any significant findings. BREEZE OF LUCK and WHY NOT were sent for sampling.
