As the start was effected, PERFECT CHEERS lifted its front feet off the ground and was slow to begin. OSVALDO and HAPPY TUMBLER were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1100 Metres, PERFECT CHEERS got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BANKSTERS BONUS which itself was steadied away from the heels of RIO WILLIE. Near the 600 Metres, RIDE WITH THE WIND commenced to give ground abruptly and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of RIDE WITH THE WIND after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had sustained a superficial wound to the back of the left hind cannon. The performance of RIDE WITH THE WIND was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RIDE WITH THE WIND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 500 Metres, OSVALDO was checked away from the heels of the tiring RIDE WITH THE WIND. Near the 100 Metres, JOLLY GOOD was shifted to the inside of EMPEROR CLAUDIUS to continue improving. Throughout the race, SPIRIT SOARING travelled wide and without cover. EMPEROR CLAUDIUS, OSVALDO and PERFECT CHEERS were sent for sampling.
