FLYING KEEPER and STARLIT WARRIOR both began awkwardly. YOUNG SUPREME shifted out abruptly at the start and bumped GREAT SHOW. FORTUNE COOKIE began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by SPARKLING which shifted out. From a wide barrier, LUCKY ARMY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance in the early and middle stages, FANTASTISCH proved very difficult to settle and got its head up repeatedly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, YOUNG SUPREME got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL DRAGON. Near the 1300 Metres, FANTASTISCH, which was continuing to race ungenerously, was momentarily crowded for room between YOUNG SUPREME which continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL DRAGON and FORTUNE COOKIE (C W Wong) which shifted in. C W Wong was advised to exercise more care in future. After the 1000 Metres, FORTUNE COOKIE was left racing wide and without cover. Shortly after entering the Straight, GREAT SHOW broke down and was retired from the race. For the majority of the race, FRIENDS SUPPORT travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, T Clark stated that he had been asked to ride YOUNG SUPREME with cover if possible. He said it was felt that YOUNG SUPREME was not finishing off its races when leading and that the horse had previously been successful when being ridden off the speed. He said for this reason shortly after the start he obtained a position behind REAL DRAGON, however, in the early stages was forced further back than anticipated when REAL DRAGON allowed horses to its outside to cross. He said when REAL DRAGON shifted away from the fence after the 1000 Metres, he was able to improve his position whilst continuing to follow REAL DRAGON, the eventual winner of the race, throughout the event. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY ARMY and SPARKLING after the race did not show any significant findings. YOUNG SUPREME, REAL DRAGON and GOOD LOOKING WATCH were sent for sampling.
