On arrival at the Start, BERNARD’S CHOICE, which made contact with a rail on the way to the Start which resulted in its rider, T Angland, being dislodged, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. HANDSOME BATCHELOR began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, WALALA blundered after being crowded for room between NEW ASIA RISING which shifted in slightly and LUCKY CHEVALIER which was taken out by TATTENHALL FLYER which in turn was taken out by HIGHLAND DRAGON which shifted out on jumping. From a wide barrier, BERNARD’S CHOICE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1300 Metres, BERNARD’S CHOICE, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of FLORAL MAN (O Doleuze) after being taken in by that horse which was shifting ground when not sufficiently clear. O Doleuze was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Near the 100 Metres, LUCKY CHEVALIER shifted out and bumped PRINCE OF SUNSHINE, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. BERNARD’S CHOICE got its head on the side and lay in under pressure in the Straight. Throughout the race, NOTUS travelled wide and without cover. NEW ASIA RISING, FLORAL MAN and PERFECT JOY were sent for sampling.
