At declaration time, M Chadwick was declared as the rider of both DRAGON CHOICE and GOAL AND GOLD. It was established that M Chadwick had a firm commitment to ride DRAGON CHOICE. As such, the Stewards permitted K Teetan to be substituted as the rider of GOAL AND GOLD. For this declaration error, M Chadwick was fined $2,000. ALL LUCKY, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 2.11.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left fore tendon injury). Before being allowed to race again, ALL LUCKY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When leaving the Parade Ring, GOAL AND GOLD became fractious, resulting in K Teetan being dislodged. JUST GOOD was slow to begin. NO TIES shifted out at the start and bumped GOAL AND GOLD. CRUISE CONTROL was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, AFRICA LIGHT shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of OPTIMIZATION STAR which became unbalanced. After this, AFRICA LIGHT was ridden along, however, failed to muster pace. Passing the 800 Metres, OPTIMIZATION STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRIUMPHANT DRAGON. Near the 600 Metres, TRIUMPHANT DRAGON, which was reluctant to maintain its position inside CONFUCIUS ELITE, shifted out slightly towards the heels of that horse, resulting in OPTIMIZATION STAR being steadied when crowded for room inside FANTASY AND GOLD. After this, TRIUMPHANT DRAGON got it head on the side and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CONFUCIUS ELITE. Both OPTIMIZATION STAR and CONFUCIUS ELITE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, AFRICA LIGHT was held up for clear running. TRIUMPHANT DRAGON was badly held up for clear running until passing the 200 Metres. Passing the 200 Metres, CONFUCIUS ELITE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GORGEOUS LIFE. Passing the 100 Metres, AFRICA LIGHT was steadied when disappointed for running between FLYING SUPREME and FORTUNE TERRITORY which shifted in. Throughout the race, GORGEOUS LIFE travelled wide and without cover. NO TIES, OPTIMIZATION STAR and FORTUNE TERRITORY were sent for sampling.
