ROYAL KNIGHT was withdrawn on 31.12.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore foot). Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL KNIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KENSWORTH KID blundered at the start and then was crowded for room between MR MARFACH and SUPERKING DRAGON which shifted out. After this, KENSWORTH KID was ridden along in an attempt to make up lost ground. Shortly after the start, YUAN’S FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of MR MARFACH. Passing the 600 Metres, MR MARFACH and SMART GUY bumped on a number of occasions as MR MARFACH shifted out from behind MOBILE KING into clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres, MR MARFACH and SMART GUY bumped. Throughout the race, SMART GUY travelled wide and without cover. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on THE ONLY KID at the request of Trainer K W Lui. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THE ONLY KID will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of KENSWORTH KID immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUPERKING DRAGON and RAIN OF THUNDER were sent for sampling.
