SANTA FE SUN was withdrawn on 11.4.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter CALIFORNIA DISEGNO (N Callan). SMART DRAGON was also withdrawn on 11.4.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter WINNIE’S HONEY (M Chadwick). Before being allowed to race again, SANTA FE SUN and SMART DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. INVENTOR shifted out at the start and bumped TWIN DELIGHT. MIGHTY MAVERICK shifted out at the start and bumped WHAT ELSE BUT YOU. After this, WHAT ELSE BUT YOU was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed and a short distance after the start was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. K Teetan explained that he had been instructed that if WHAT ELSE BUT YOU began well and was able to take up a forward position, then he should do so, however, if the horse did not begin well, having regard that there were a number of horses better drawn than WHAT ELSE BUT YOU which would show speed, he was advised to shift across behind runners to obtain cover. From the outside barrier, RODRICO was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Also from a wide barrier, SUPER TURBO was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. INVENTOR lost its right front plate after the 900 Metres. Passing the 300 Metres, WINNIE’S HONEY, which was commencing to give ground, was bumped by BABA MAMA which in turn was taken wider by SUPER TURBO which shifted out to improve. A veterinary inspection of WINNIE’S HONEY immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. The performance of WINNIE’S HONEY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINNIE’S HONEY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. INVENTOR was held up for clear running behind MIGHTY MAVERICK passing the 250 Metres and after the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of that horse to improve. Throughout the race, BABA MAMA travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA DISEGNO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WINNER’S WAY and JOLLY BANNER were sent for sampling. <13/4/2017 Additional Veterinary Report>CALIFORNIA DISEGNO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. CALIFORNIA DISEGNO was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have sustained a left front tendon injury. Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA DISEGNO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
