G-ONE UNION was withdrawn on 26.1.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WINNING BOY (A Badel). Before being allowed to race again, G-ONE UNION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN CANNON began awkwardly and lost ground, resulting in the horse racing back in the field. From wide barriers, JOYFUL FOREVER and YOUNG DREAMER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1200 Metres, THE LEGEND was steadied away from the heels of HAY GO LUCKY which, when being ridden along, got its head on the side and shifted in away from REAL DEAL. Passing the 1000 Metres, CORRE RAPIDO was left racing wide and without cover. After the 1000 Metres, WINNER ST PAUL’S was ridden along, however, was unable to prevent THE LEGEND from shifting out, resulting in WINNER ST PAUL’S being taken wider. Approaching the 500 Metres, HAY GO LUCKY shifted out abruptly after becoming awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL DEAL, resulting in BLISS CARTEL being bumped and taken wider. At the 400 Metres, CARRY TO WIN was checked when improving into tight running between HAY GO LUCKY and FURLONG DRAGON which shifted out marginally when commencing to give ground abruptly. Passing the 300 Metres, FURLONG DRAGON and CARRY TO WIN raced tight inside HAY GO LUCKY which got its head on the side and lay in. Near the 150 Metres, HAY GO LUCKY was crowded for room between CARRY TO WIN which shifted out to improve to the outside of REAL DEAL and BLISS CARTEL which got its head on the side and lay in away from THE LEGEND. Over the final 100 Metres, both WINNER ST PAUL’S and GOLDEN CANNON shifted in under pressure. Passing the 100 Metres, HAY GO LUCKY got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of REAL DEAL. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on CORRE RAPIDO at the request of Trainer C H Yip. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CORRE RAPIDO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of REAL DEAL, HAY GO LUCKY and BLISS CARTEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOLDEN CANNON and WINNER ST PAUL’S were sent for sampling.
