SAVVY NINE and FLYING QUEST began only fairly. MAXIMUS began awkwardly. STAR SHINE was crowded for room on jumping between INSAYSHABLE which shifted in and GLORIOUS ARTIST which shifted out before being taken out further by BEAR AGAIN. From the outside barrier, GREEN LUCK was shifted across behind runners in the early stages and passing the winning post on the first occasion was left racing wide and without cover and was steadied further to obtain a position with cover. GREEN LUCK was again left racing wide and without cover passing the 1100 Metres. After the 1100 Metres, INSAYSHABLE got its head up on a number of occasions when racing ungenerously. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, GREEN LUCK raced tight outside MAXIMUS which improved to the outside of TIANCHI MONSTER. Approaching the 100 Metres, TIANCHI MONSTER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GLORIOUS ARTIST which shifted out marginally under pressure. After the race, A Badel stated that MAXIMUS would not relax and travelled keenly throughout the race and then when the pace of the race quickened approaching the 400 Metres was left flat-footed. He said MAXIMUS was somewhat disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of MAXIMUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the performance of GREEN LUCK, J Moreira stated that, from the outside barrier, he was asked to shift the horse across behind runners and obtain cover. He said the pace of the race was not strong which did not suit GREEN LUCK and that, together with the fact that the horse had to cover ground as a result of racing wide and without cover for the majority of the race were the principal reasons for its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of GREEN LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of FLYING QUEST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. MAXIMUS, GLORIOUS ARTIST and PACKING WALTHAM were sent for sampling.
