GENERAL KINGY, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 2.7.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, GENERAL KINGY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FASTER FASTER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, HEADINGLEY shifted in, causing NAMJONG SKY to be carried in and bumped DAYLIGHT EXPRESS which as a result shifted in, struck the heels of MASTER YING and blundered. Near the 1100 Metres, SURE HERO got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ACTIVE VALOUR. Near the 900 Metres, HEADINGLEY shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of NAMJONG SKY which as a result became unbalanced. Approaching the 700 Metres, ACTIVE VALOUR was checked when crowded for room inside HEADINGLEY which got its head on the side and shifted in when being steadied away from the heels of SUPER RED. D Beadman (ACTIVE VALOUR) reported that as a result of this incident his saddle shifted backwards. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Making the Home Turn, HEADINGLEY was steadied away from the heels of SUPER RED which commenced to give ground. After the 300 Metres, WINNING CHAMP, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room inside MASTER YING (W M Lai) which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 200 Metres, DAYLIGHT EXPRESS became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside NAMJONG SKY. Throughout the race, MAJIN BUU travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that TOP SPEED returned to scale with raised weal marks on its right hindquarter. After viewing the film and considering the manner in which M W Leung, the rider of TOP SPEED, had used his whip on the horse, the Stewards decided to issue no penalty. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that WINNING CHAMP had lost its left front plate. DAYLIGHT EXPRESS, MASTER YING and ACTIVE VALOUR were sent for sampling.
