BRILLIANT FLASH and QUALITY-QUALITY were slow to begin. After entering the Back Straight, PACHINKO commenced to hang in, then hung in badly in the Straight and proved difficult to ride. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, BRILLIANT FLASH was steadied away from the heels of QUALITY-QUALITY. At the 250 Metres, CLOVIS was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside GOLDEN BALL. Then after the 200 Metres, CLOVIS, which was having some difficulty obtaining clear running, improved into a narrow run between FRIENDSHIP and BEAUTIFUL CHOICE. At the 50 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY (B Doyle) was inconvenienced when racing outside BRILLIANT FLASH which drifted slightly wider. B Doyle was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race at least hands and heels where circumstances permit. For the major part of the race, FOREST FOUNTAIN hung out and travelled wide and without cover. PACHINKO, MASTER DREAMER and BRILLIANT FLASH were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported MASTER DREAMER had lost its right hind plate.
