After leaving the Parade Ring, HEALTHY CONTENDER lost its right front plate. HEALTHY CONTENDER was replated before proceeding to the Start. After arriving at the Start, HEALTHY CONTENDER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. HEALTHY CONTENDER and MAGNANIMOUS were slow to begin. RAINBOW STAR was slow into stride. Prior to straightening, HOLD YOUR BOW was bumped by WILD ACE which shifted out. In the early part of the Straight, WASABISABI got its head on the side and was inclined to hang in away from AMNESTY. Approaching the winning post, NATIONAL GLORY commenced to hang in. Because of this, D Whyte stopped riding and straightened his mount. When questioned, O Doleuze (WITHALLMYHEART) said he had been issued with riding instructions that if his mount began well, he could go forward in an attempt to find a position with cover or if the pace of the race as anticipated was strong, he could go back to obtain a position with cover. He said WITHALLMYHEART began satisfactorily, he did not ride along initially to give himself an opportunity to assess the manner in which the race would be run. He said shortly after the start he looked to his inside and it became apparent to him that a number of runners were being ridden to go forward and because of this he anticipated the pace would be strong and he therefore took WITHALLMYHEART back to a position with cover near the rear. He said WITHALLMYHEART travelled satisfactorily and closed the race off nicely. NATIONAL GLORY and AMNESTY were sent for sampling.
