GRAND MASTERMIND

On March 10th (dirt trial 1200m, running in 4th position during the first section, 5th during the second, and 8th overall), the horse navigated five wide around the bend and was eased up on the straight. On February 24th (dirt trial 1200m, running in 5th position during the first section, 6th during the second, and 6th overall), it received prompting at the 200m mark but failed to clear space. A turf trial over 1200m at Conghua on February 6th saw the horse lightly urged and performed satisfactorily, finishing in 8th position during the first section, 7th during the second, and 5th overall. Eight weeks ago, its run on dirt over 1200m was very disappointing; it settled back in the field and weakened towards the finish, losing badly. After three barrier trials, it still appears to be lacking fitness. Switching to Happy Valley over 1200m now for its debut distance, this is not a favorable trip. It recorded slower sectional times compared to horses in the same group, putting it at a disadvantage. The trainer-jockey combination has yet to show significant synergy. Despite a two-pound weight reduction and drawing a good barrier this time, its chances are still considered low.
