MEGABUCKS and NORDIC STAR began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, MEGABUCKS and NEW TRIUMPH were crowded for room between SEIZE THE DAY and STAREILLY which on jumping got its head on the side and shifted out. Near the 1000 Metres, QUICK MONEY became unbalanced and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of BIG PROFIT which got its head on the side and shifted out away from the heels of SUPER HONEY. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, NORDIC STAR shifted out abruptly when being checked to avoid the heels of SEIZE THE DAY which was steadied when awkwardly placed between GUAN DAO and MEGABUCKS which made the turn awkwardly and shifted out. No action was taken. When NORDIC STAR checked, inconvenience was caused to SUPER HONEY, QUICK MONEY and STAR OF CHIU TON which were all steadied and BIG PROFIT which was checked. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, GUAN DAO hung out. After the 200 Metres, when giving ground, SEIZE THE DAY shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of NORDIC STAR which was carried slightly wider by SUPER BOBO which was hanging out. Y T Cheng (SEIZE THE DAY) explained he had ridden the horse in track work in the lead up to the race. He said in his opinion this work was only fair. He said he was able to obtain a forward position as instructed, however, after being inconvenienced making the turn at the 800 Metres, SEIZE THE DAY was reluctant to hold its position. He said in the Straight SEIZE THE DAY failed to close the race off. SEIZE THE DAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SEIZE THE DAY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. SUPER HONEY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER HONEY after the race did not show any significant findings. STAREILLY, SOU MA TAM and MEGABUCKS were sent for sampling.
