WESTERN STAR began very awkwardly, got its head up and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. When the gates opened, CHINA LUJIA got its head up and as a consequence was slow to begin. RAISING SUN began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, causing M W Leung, its rider, to lose the use of his left stirrup for a short distance. In the early stages, OCEAN PRINCE, which throughout the race travelled wide and without cover, proved difficult to settle. Prior to straightening, MING HOI TREASURE, which had been shifting out in an endeavour to find clear running, made contact with YOUNG ELITE, then for a considerable distance after straightening hung in and proved difficult to ride. Y T Cheng (JADE DRAGONFLY) explained near the 100 Metres his mount, which was closing the race off fairly, appeared to become unbalanced in its action. He said because of this he momentarily stopped riding his mount. YOUNG ELITE and MING HOI TREASURE were sent for sampling.
