AMERICAN GLORY was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen right fore cannon). Before being allowed to race again, AMERICAN GLORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, LIGHTNING MOUNT was bumped on the hindquarters by ICE FIRE which shifted out at the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, COULDN’T CARE LESS was steadied when crowded for room inside ICE FIRE which itself was taken in by LIGHTNING MOUNT (J Victoire). J Victoire was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves sufficient racing room for his fellow riders in future. Near the 250 Metres, ICE FIRE became unbalanced when awkwardly placed between LIGHTNING MOUNT and SHATIN TREASURE which shifted in. After this, Apprentice K W Leung, the rider of SHATIN TREASURE, stopped riding and straightened his mount to relieve the tightening to ICE FIRE. Throughout the race, TOUCH MORE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performances of TOUCH MORE and STAR OF CHIU TON, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TOUCH MORE and STAR OF CHIU TON will both be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, A Suborics was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of COULDN’T CARE LESS which he said failed to travel at any stage of the race. A veterinary inspection of COULDN’T CARE LESS and TOUCH MORE after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of STAR OF CHIU TON after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse was not able to be scoped. HIGH NOTE, LIGHTNING MOUNT and GOLDEN BOY were sent for sampling.
