When questioned regarding his riding of GALLANT CHAMPION, which was racing on the first occasion for the new stable today, Apprentice M Chadwick stated that he was instructed to have the horse in a position where it was comfortable. He said he was also instructed to ensure that the horse was shifted to the outside in the Straight so as to afford it uninterrupted running. He said GALLANT CHAMPION did not show any early pace and settled back in the field today. He said passing the 600 Metres he elected to continue saving ground rather than shifting out to get onto the back of FIRST BEAT and in the early part of the Straight then commenced to work his way to the outside. He said GALLANT CHAMPION took some time to respond to his riding, but when positioned to the outside of FIRST BEAT near the 200 Metres, GALLANT CHAMPION then finished the race off strongly. Apprentice Chadwick was advised that the Stewards would report his explanation, however, he should ensure that he positions his mounts so that he is able to improve his position at the earliest opportunity. TOY STORY travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of VANQUISH DELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. FIRST BEAT, GLORY OF INDIA and LU YUE were sent for sampling.
