HAPPY ZERO shifted out at the start and hampered FRIENDLY GAINS. KILDARE began awkwardly. C W Wong (OUR LUCKY BABY) reported his mount hung in throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of OUR LUCKY BABY after the race revealed that the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. When questioned, B Prebble (BRILLIANT CHAPTER) said that it had been decided to ride the horse towards the outside fence and hoped that it obtained the necessary luck in running to allow it to finish off the race. He said accordingly, from barrier 2, in the early stages he directed BRILLIANT CHAPTER to the outside fence and enjoyed a nice run behind ONE WORLD. He said approaching the 400 Metres he had the opportunity to shift to the outside of ONE WORLD and then try to attempt a run to the outside of KILDARE, however, he felt it would be a better option to shift BRILLIANT CHAPTER in slightly and hoped that the horse was able to obtain a clear run. He said he shifted BRILLIANT CHAPTER to the inside of ONE WORLD near the 350 Metres and the horse quickened nicely, however, near the 200 Metres was briefly held up when behind ONE WORLD and outside the tiring LUCKY QUALITY. He said near the 150 Metres BRILLIANT CHAPTER obtained clear running and when placed under full pressure finished off the race well. HAPPY ZERO and ONE WORLD were sent for sampling.
