UPGRADING, which reared over backwards in the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, in his opinion, it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of UPGRADING. Before being allowed to race again, UPGRADING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Mr L Ho, trainer of UPGRADING, undertook to school the horse in the Parade Ring prior to its next race start. As the start was effected, SOLAR MIGHTY lifted both its front feet off the ground and consequently jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Also as the start was effected, NORMAN INVADER lifted both its front feet off the ground and as a result lost ground. PERFECT STYLE began awkwardly. At the 1000 Metres, BEAR MACHO was obliged to be steadied away from the heels of SUNNY GOLF which at this time was taken in by ROYAL PERICLES (W M Lai). W M Lai was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground. For some distance approaching and passing the 900 Metres, SUPERIOR UNIT, which was racing fiercely, was buffeted for room between HOLI RAVIOLI and ROYAL PERICLES which shifted in. W M Lai was severely reprimanded for having runners to his inside unnecessarily tight at this stage of the race. In this incident, SUPERIOR UNIT bumped HOLI RAVIOLI which became unbalanced. After being crossed by ROYAL PERICLES making the first turn, SUPERIOR UNIT got its head on the side and hung out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROYAL PERICLES. HOLI RAVIOLI, SUNNY GOLF and VITAL FLYER were sent for sampling.
