TYCOON TAYLOR began awkwardly and shortly after the start raced in restricted room between GOOD SMILE and WIND DAMPER. FULL VERSION, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, and HOME WITH GLORY were slow to begin. In the early stages, WIND DAMPER travelled wide and without cover. Passing the 800 Metres, TYCOON TAYLOR got its head up and proved difficult to settle when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BRILLIANT CHARIOT. HOME WITH GLORY, which was following, was steadied in consequence. After the 800 Metres, LUCKY TYCOON was left racing wide and without cover. Close to the finishing line, GOOD SMILE raced tight inside AMAZING CHOICE. When questioned, H W Lai (HOME WITH GLORY) stated that he had been instructed to maintain a position one horse off the fence throughout the race and to make his run to the outside of horses. He said for this reason he remained racing behind TYCOON TAYLOR passing the 600 Metres rather than shifting to the inside of that horse and following JUST CHILL so that he would be able to switch to the outside at the entrance to the Home Straight. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that LUCKY TYCOON had sustained a cut to the left front cannon. RIDE ON THE FIRE and AMAZING CHOICE were sent for sampling.
