YOU GOTTA PAY was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, YOU GOTTA PAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPARKLING POWER began awkwardly and lost ground. SUPREME WIN was slow to begin. Approaching the 1200 Metres, CERISE CHERRY shifted out and bumped ST FEVRE. Also approaching the 1200 Metres, SPARKLING POWER was checked and got its head up when crowded for room between ELEGANCE DESIRE which shifted in slightly and SUPREME WIN which was taken out marginally by WEALTHY MAN. As the Stewards were satisfied that no rider error was involved in this incident, no further action was taken. Passing the 350 Metres, KAAPTAN was bumped by SPARKLING POWER which was shifted to the outside of HAPPY GLADIATOR into clear running. SUPREME WIN had difficulty obtaining clear running until after the 200 Metres. Near the 150 Metres, WEALTHY MAN was checked when crowded for room between ST FEVRE which was taken in slightly by ELEGANCE DESIRE (W M Lai) and CERISE CHERRY which shifted out after being bumped on a number of occasions by THE LUCKY STEED (K H Yu). K H Yu was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances while W M Lai was also reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves sufficient room for runners to his inside in future. For the majority of the race, ST FEVRE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, D Beadman stated that he was under no specific instructions on how to ride FINAL ANSWER other than he was to ensure that that the horse raced with cover. He said it was felt that there was good speed in the race. He said from barrier 10 he steadied FINAL ANSWER in the early stages and shifted it across behind ELEGANCE DESIRE. He said he then followed the eventual winner SPARKLING POWER throughout the race and whilst FINAL ANSWER travelled well in the early and middle stages, the horse responded only fairly to his riding in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of VIVA AMOUR after the race revealed that the horse was lame in its left hind leg. A veterinary inspection of ROMANTIC CITY and SUPREME WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. SPARKLING POWER and ELEGANCE DESIRE were sent for sampling.
