On arrival at the Start, J Lloyd expressed concern in respect of the action of GUNNER MAC. An inspection of GUNNER MAC by the Veterinary Officer revealed that the horse was lame in both hind legs. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of GUNNER MAC. Before being allowed to race again, GUNNER MAC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DASHING ACE was difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, DASHING ACE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. As the start was effected, SUNNY SMILES became fractious, reared and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY SMILES will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. BUMBLE BEE began awkwardly, resulting in its rider, C W Wong, becoming unbalanced in the saddle and causing BUMBLE BEE to lose ground. SPEEDY was slow to begin. DASHING ACE was steadied when crowded for room shortly after the start between NAMJONG FIGHTERS which shifted out and CHEEKY LAD which was taken in by GOLD CITY which in turn was taken in by SUPER PEPPER. From the outside barrier, NEWSWIRE TOO was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1300 Metres, BUMBLE BEE momentarily raced in restricted room between DASHING ACE and ROYAL PORTRAIT. Near the 650 Metres, BUMBLE BEE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of STAR OF CHIU TON. NEWSWIRE TOO was held up for clear running until near the 200 Metres. Passing the 100 Metres, the whip of Apprentice K C Leung (GOLD CITY) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of P Strydom (DASHING ACE). NAMJONG FIGHTERS, SPEEDY and STAR OF CHIU TON were sent for sampling.
