TOP SPEED was withdrawn on 13.5.11 by order of the Stewards (bereavement) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BIG WINNER AGAIN (B Doyle). J Lloyd (GOOD JOB) was fined the sum of $2,000 for weighing out without a girth. SAMMY’S FORTUNE was crowded for room at the start between GREAT UNITY which shifted out slightly and BIG WINNER AGAIN which was taken in by DESCARTES. PLANET began awkwardly and then when being steadied to a position towards the rear of the field got its head up and proved difficult to settle. From the outside barrier, JUST GOOD was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. At the 1200 Metres, PLANET got its head up and shifted out away from the heels of JUST GOOD which also was proving difficult to settle. For some distance near the 1100 Metres, FIERCE raced tight inside SUPER SURVEYS which shifted in when over-racing and having to be checked away from the heels of GREAT UNITY. In this incident, FIERCE became unbalanced on a number of occasions when bumped by SUPER SURVEYS. For some distance after the 1100 Metres, GOOD JOB, when racing wide and without cover, raced ungenerously and got its head up on a number of occasions. Then for some distance after the 800 Metres, GOOD JOB commenced to over-race and had to be checked away from the heels of BIG WINNER AGAIN. After the 700 Metres, BIG WINNER AGAIN got its head on the side and lay out and after this raced wide and without cover. At the 200 Metres, SAMMY’S FORTUNE momentarily had difficulty obtaining clear running inside DESCARTES. Over the concluding stages, DR UNION was steadied away from the heels of SPEEDY when taken out by DESCARTES. Because of this, DR UNION was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Also over the concluding stages, GOOD JOB was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BIG WINNER AGAIN. Throughout the race, CONQUEROR travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of JUST GOOD and GOOD JOB after the race did not show any significant findings. BIG WINNER AGAIN, SPEEDY and SAMMY’S FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
