On arrival at the Start, it was noted that HAPPY WISDOM had blood at the mouth. The Veterinary Officer reported that an examination of HAPPY WISDOM revealed that horse to be suitable to race. PROSPEROUS was slow to begin and then shortly after the start, along with STAR LEGEND, was crowded for room between YEE WONGCHOY which shifted out after being bumped by LUCKY RED and WINNING SCHOLAR which shifted in slightly. AMAZING SKY shifted out at the start, resulting in ORIENTAL COURSER and BEST ELEVEN being hampered. In this incident, BEST ELEVEN became unbalanced. From wide barriers, HERO AND GOLD and SPIRIT OF SECRETS were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, LUCKY RED got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING SCHOLAR. Approaching the 400 Metres, PROSPEROUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZING SKY when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. In the Straight, ORIENTAL COURSER was shifted out from behind runners to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, BEST ELEVEN travelled wide and without cover. WINNING SCHOLAR and PROSPEROUS were sent for sampling.
