FASCINATING SMILE was withdrawn on 6.12.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetance) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter INVINCIBLE HEART (H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, FASCINATING SMILE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. INVINCIBLE HEART bounded in the air as the start was effected and then on landing stumbled, resulting in INVINCIBLE HEART losing a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, INVINCIBLE HEART will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. DESCARTES and GRACYTOM bumped at the start. NOT QUITE PERFECT and DUKE’S VICTORY also bumped at the start. QUELLE SURPRISE was slow to begin. From wide barriers, TURIN CHAMPION and GRACYTOM were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Throughout the race, DESCARTES travelled wide and without cover and prior to straightening gave ground. The performance of DESCARTES, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DESCARTES will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING OF FISH II travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that QUELLE SURPRISE had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of INVINCIBLE HEART after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, INVINCIBLE HEART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GRACYTOM, EXCELLENT WIN and MAGIC KING were sent for sampling. <8/12/2011 Additional Veterinary Report>INVINCIBLE HEART, which bounded in the air as the start was effected and then on landing stumbled, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. INVINCIBLE HEART was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, INVINCIBLE HEART will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
