MR SO AND SO was withdrawn on 3.3.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FIRST RESPONDER (N Callan). Before being allowed to race again, MR SO AND SO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEAUTY SPARK began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HINCHINLOVE, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. SEVENTH SEA was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. From the outside barrier, GREEN REIGN was steadied shortly after the start and shifted across behind runners. Approaching the 1100 Metres, PING HAI GALAXY, which was being steadied to obtain cover when racing wide, was steadied away from the heels of VERY RICH MAN which got its head on the side and shifted out away from THIS IS CLASS. Passing the 900 Metres, HINCHINLOVE raced tight inside FALCON TURBO which got its head on the side and shifted in away from VERY RICH MAN. Passing the 600 Metres, HINCHINLOVE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FALCON TURBO. Near the 450 Metres, BEAUTY SPARK and HINCHINLOVE bumped on a number of occasions, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced. Throughout the race, SUPER WISE and VERY RICH MAN travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of SUPER WISE and VERY RICH MAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUPER WISE and VERY RICH MAN, both of which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER WISE and VERY RICH MAN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, G van Niekerk (TAKINGUFURTHER) stated that he rode his mount along in the early stages to take up a prominent position as the horse was successful when ridden in this manner at its most recent race start. He said despite being ridden along, TAKINGUFURTHER did not show sufficient early speed to be able to cross runners to its inside and was left racing very wide making the turn near the 1000 Metres. He said he therefore steadied his mount and shifted across to obtain cover rather than continuing to race wide. He said, in his opinion, the horse did not appreciate being ridden off the speed and consequently was not able to finish off the race as it did last start. A veterinary inspection of TAKINGUFURTHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TAKINGUFURTHER, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TAKINGUFURTHER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the performance of PING HAI GALAXY, M F Poon stated that for a considerable distance after the 1000 Metres PING HAI GALAXY raced close to the heels of HINCHINLOVE. He said PING HAI GALAXY appeared to lose confidence when unbalanced behind HINCHINLOVE and the horse did not travel as strongly as it did when successful for him at its last start. He said he shifted PING HAI GALAXY away from the heels of HINCHINLOVE after the 600 Metres to follow TAKINGUFURTHER, however, the horse did not travel into the race as it did last start. He said after shifting to the outside of TAKINGUFURTHER rounding the Home Turn, PING HAI GALAXY then did not finish off the race and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of PING HAI GALAXY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PING HAI GALAXY, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PING HAI GALAXY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THIS IS CLASS and GREEN REIGN were sent for sampling. <5/3/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>SUPER WISE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPER WISE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front and right hind legs. As previously advised, SUPER WISE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
