TORNADO TWIST began only fairly. BEAUTY AMIGO shifted out shortly after the start and inconvenienced TRUST ME. When being steadied to obtain cover in the early stages, SOULMATE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of TRUST ME. Approaching the 900 Metres, BIG FORTUNE was left racing wide and without cover. For the majority of the race, DROPS OF GOD travelled wide and without cover. Making the first turn after the 900 Metres, DROPS OF GOD shifted in before being directed out abruptly. When DROPS OF GOD shifted in, TRUST ME shifted in marginally, resulting in TELECOM JAC being momentarily crowded for room. TELECOM JAC then got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of TRUST ME, resulting in TELECOM JAC losing ground. TORNADO TWIST, which was following TELECOM JAC, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence. TORNADO TWIST was then awkwardly placed behind TELECOM JAC for some distance. Passing the 650 Metres, SOULMATE commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted in when being checked away from the heels of TRUST ME, resulting in IMA SINGLE MAN and TORNADO TWIST being momentarily crowded for room passing the 600 Metres. Passing the 500 Metres, TORNADO TWIST was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TELECOM JAC. Passing the 200 Metres, TORNADO TWIST was directed out away from the heels of SOULMATE to obtain clear running. Passing the 100 Metres, SOULMATE and TELECOM JAC raced tight as a result of TELECOM JAC attempting to shift to the outside of ROCK YA HEART. As a result of TELECOM JAC not being able to shift to the outside of ROCK YA HEART, that horse was not able to be ridden out over the concluding stages. Close to the finishing line, IMA SINGLE MAN, which was finishing off the race strongly, was checked away from the heels of DIAMOND BRILLIANT when held up for clear running behind that horse. Because of this, IMA SINGLE MAN was not ridden out all the way to the end of the race. After the race, Apprentice C L Chau (BIG FORTUNE) stated that as it was felt that there were a number of horses engaged in the race which would be ridden to obtain a forward position, he was instructed, from the wide barrier, to ride the horse further back in the field than usual. DROPS OF GOD, DIAMOND BRILLIANT and WINNER METHOD were sent for sampling.
