JIANG JUN began awkwardly. From the outside barrier, DEFERENTIAL was taken across behind runners in the early stages. CLEAN SWEEP was slow to muster speed in the early stages. Near the 1100 Metres, TEAM WORK became unbalanced and shifted wider after being bumped solidly by CANNONISE which shifted out. Approaching the turn at the 1000 Metres, JIANG JUN shifted in, bumped the running rail, then shifted out and bumped DEFERENTIAL. In the early and middle stages, WINDICATOR RETURNS proved very difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, WINDICATOR RETURNS was crowded for room between BLUE GENES and TEAM WORK. In the Straight, JIANG JUN hung out, after the 200 Metres shifted wider on the track and caused some inconvenience to WINDICATOR RETURNS which was giving ground and had been hanging in. Approaching the winning post, JIANG JUN, which was continuing to hang out, was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HOLI RAVOLI and because of this was not ridden out fully to the end of the race. When questioned regarding the performance of DOUBLE LUCK, B Prebble said his mount was initially going to settle in a midfield position, however, making the turn at the 1000 Metres WINDICATOR RETURNS when being steadied away from the heels of BLUE GENES shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with DOUBLE LUCK. He said as a consequence of this DOUBLE LUCK became unbalanced and then was obliged to travel three wide outside WINDICATOR RETURNS. He said after being bumped DOUBLE LUCK became fired up and was difficult to settle. He said because of this DOUBLE LUCK was not able to finish the race off in its usual manner. DOUBLE LUCK was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. JIANG JUN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DOUBLE LUCK and JIANG JUN after the race did not show any significant findings. DIM SUM and BLUE GENES were sent for sampling.
