After being boxed, GOOD TIME CHARLIE was fractious. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD TIME CHARLIE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. As the start was effected, AMAZING VENTURE sat back and as a consequence was slow to begin. ANIMATION began awkwardly. MAXIMUM CHARM began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. MEDALLION was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, MOONGLOW failed to muster speed. Near the 1200 Metres, GOOD TIME CHARLIE was steadied away from the heels of NEW CHAPTER (M Du Plessis) which while being shifted in was being steadied. M Du Plessis was told to exercise greater care. After this incident, GOOD TIME CHARLIE raced keenly. Near the 1000 Metres, DRAGON STRIDE was steadied when awkwardly placed inside ANIMATION, then after the 800 Metres was steadied away from the heels of ANIMATION. After the 1000 Metres, MAXIMUM CHARM, which was travelling wide and without cover, was ridden along to go forward. At the 900 Metres, MULTO EXPRESSO was left racing wide and without cover. Making the Home Turn, GOOD TIME CHARLIE hung out and shifted wider on the track. After the 100 Metres, MEDALLION was steadied for some distance when disappointed for running between MOONGLOW and AMAZING VENTURE which itself was steadied away from the heels of STEEL NERVES which became unbalanced and shifted in after being brushed by BEST FRIEND. After this, MEDALLION continued to race in restricted room in the run to the line and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Over about the final 75 Metres, ANIMATION was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between MOONGLOW and NEWSWIRE TOO which was giving ground. Because of this, ANIMATION was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. The performance of MAXIMUM CHARM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MAXIMUM CHARM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of ANIMATION, D Beadman said from an inside barrier he travelled inside other runners and in his opinion at no stage of the race was ANIMATION comfortable in this position. He said because of this ANIMATION failed to stride out as he thought it should. ANIMATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. MULTO EXPRESSO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ANIMATION and MULTO EXPRESSO after the race did not show any significant findings. BEST FRIEND and NEW CHAPTER were sent for sampling.
