PALIO KING was withdrawn on 21.6.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FIRST KNIGHT (B Prebble). Before being allowed to race again, PALIO KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, F Coetzee expressed concern over the action of MAGI JOY. MAGI JOY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse had a restricted action in front and in his opinion was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MAGI JOY. Before being allowed to race again, MAGI JOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER IDEAL began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS got its head up. From the outside barrier, ENERGETIC BOY was taken back in the early stages, then after shifting in was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed and became detached in the early stages. After the 1200 Metres, LEADER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE GALLOP which after shifting to the inside of LITTLE BIG BOY was then ridden along to maintain its position as LITTLE BIG BOY was also ridden along to shift in in an attempt to obtain a position with cover. However, LITTLE BIG BOY was not able to obtain a position with cover, travelled wide throughout and making the Home Turn hung out. After the 800 Metres, ELEPHANT STAR was left racing wide and without cover. At the 500 Metres, SUPER IDEAL was steadied when awkwardly placed between FORTUNE GALLOP and SUPER POWER which shifted out slightly. Making the Home Turn, DASHING WINNER hung out. For a considerable distance after the 400 Metres, SUPER POWER was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Over about the final 200 Metres, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not fully tested. At the 50 Metres, ENERGETIC BOY, which was closing the race off strongly, was crowded for room inside FORTUNE GALLOP which shifted in slightly away from SUPER IDEAL which over the concluding stages hung in. LITTLE BIG BOY and SUPER POWER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LITTLE BIG BOY and SUPER POWER after the race did not show any significant findings. LEADER and FIRST KNIGHT were sent for sampling.
