Prior to leaving the saddling stalls, ARITZIA had its right hind plate replaced. ARITZIA was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As the start was effected, THUNDER VALLEY became fractious, lunged forward, then began awkwardly, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of DAILY DOUBLE. As a consequence, THUNDER VALLEY lost as considerable amount of ground. As the gates opened, ZABEEL TREASURE lifted its front feet off the ground and was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, LUCKY BO BO was taken back in the early stages. Passing the 800 Metres, THUNDER VALLEY was steadied when awkwardly placed between ZABEEL TREASURE and DAILY DOUBLE. Near the 300 Metres, ARITZIA, which was commencing to give ground, was bumped by WHATAFANTASY which shifted to the outside of FOREST STAR to obtain clear running. After the 300 Metres, THUNDER VALLEY, which was closing the race off, was checked and shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of ARITZIA which continued to give ground. In the Straight, SPLENDID SAILS hung in. Throughout the race, ARITZIA travelled wide and without cover. EASTERN FIREBALL was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, EASTERN FIREBALL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, EASTERN FIREBALL will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TRUE INTELLIGENCE and ENGINEERING WONDER were sent for sampling.
