On October 13th, during a turf trial at Conghua over 1200m (sections 8-8-7), the horse jumped slowly and was deliberately held back to settle towards the rear, appearing to have more in reserve. Four weeks ago, in a Sha Tin mile and a half race, it also had a slow start and settled back in the field, maintaining a steady pace but without a strong finishing effort. A previous barrier trial didn’t showcase its potential. Another turf trial over 1400m was completed; this time needing to carry one extra pound, its section times were unremarkable and again required settling towards the rear. However, it lacked the finishing kick of its rivals, leaving its current form questionable. The trainer-jockey combination isn’t ideal, but the horse has secured three wins over this distance previously. Drawing an inside barrier and with Andrea Atzeni taking the ride – a jockey who understands the horse well – connections hope for improvement.
