NINJA DERBY

(Dirt trial 1200m on April 28th: 5-4-5) Held back strongly on the straight, pretending to be weaker. (Turf trial 800m on April 14th: 4-6-6) Trailed on the outside rail; distance was too short. Previously ran over 1600m on Sha Tin turf a month ago and delivered a disappointing performance, settling well up front with an even pace throughout, running without much flair. Two subsequent trials were conducted, but the horse didn't show enough effort. Another trial over 1400m on Sha Tin turf; in this race, there is a two-pound allowance. The draw is not bad, allowing it to maintain an advantageous forward position. Overall assessment places the horse favorably in the field, however, having four consecutive losses in this series, a time gap from rivals in the same group, no outstanding finishing kick seen, and an unexceptional partnership between jockey and trainer; it still possesses winning potential.
