On jumping, SOLAR UP was taken back. Shortly after the start, GOSHAWK and HIGH NOTE were steadied and taken back. H W Lai (PACKING FRIEND) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1100 Metres he shifted his mount in when not clear of SURE GOOD, causing that horse to be hampered and carried in across the rightful running of SHAXI BABY which as a result struck the heels of SURE GOOD, blundered and almost fell. In this incident, SURE GOOD lost its position and in turn caused CHEEKY LAD, I KNOW I CAN to be hampered and GOSHAWK which was following to be steadied and shifted out. H W Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 29 June 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 13 June 2009. In addition, H W Lai was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Near the 700 Metres, FABULOUS START became unbalanced and lost ground when being steadied while awkwardly placed inside SURE GOOD. I KNOW I CAN, which was following, was steadied in consequence. In the early part of the Straight, HIGH NOTE shifted wider to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, WILD ACE travelled wide and without cover. BROTHERHOOD was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. PACKING FRIEND and WILD ACE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PACKING FRIEND was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of BROTHERHOOD and WILD ACE after the race did not show any significant findings. HORSE WIN WIN and AMBITIOUS OWNER were sent for sampling.
