MING HOI TREASURE was slow to begin, then lost further ground when crowded for room between POWER DRIFTER which shifted out and HORACE’S LEGEND which shifted in after being bumped by ROYAL PEGASUS which on jumping stumbled and shifted ground. When questioned, J Lloyd (GIVE WELL) said he had been requested to ride his mount more quietly than had been the case in recent starts and it was anticipated the horse would settle in a position around midfield. He said it was explained to him GIVE WELL had disappointed at its most recent start when use had been made of the horse to go forward from a wide barrier in the early stages of the race. He added GIVE WELL was stepping back up in distance today and therefore it was anticipated the horse would benefit from being ridden more quietly. He said in accordance with his instructions he did not ride GIVE WELL along in the early stages after beginning well and initially was going to obtain a position around midfield. He said making the first turn he niggled GIVE WELL along in an endeavour to hold its position, however, due to the tempo of the race GIVE WELL travelled further back than anticipated. He said in the Straight GIVE WELL disappointed in the manner in which it closed the race off. ROYAL PEGASUS and HORACE’S LEGEND were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ROYAL PEGASUS and HORACE’S LEGEND after the race did not show any significant findings. MING HOI TREASURE, NEW CHAPTER and POWER DRIFTER were sent for sampling.
