EXTRA SPECIAL, FOUR CLUBS and WINNING SCHOLAR were all slow to begin. At the 1000 Metres, WINNING SCHOLAR was momentarily crowded for room inside THE KID which itself was taken in slightly by TOPPING LIGHT. Approaching the 800 Metres, GALLOPY was checked away from the heels of THE KID after shifting in and away from MASTER RIO. SUGAR ON TOP and JUST CHILL, which were following, were checked in consequence. At the 600 Metres, THE KID became unbalanced when crowded for room inside TOPPING LIGHT (Apprentice M Chadwick) which shifted in. Apprentice Chadwick was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure he makes every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting in when not clear. For some distance after this, THE KID raced tight inside TOPPING LIGHT. Approaching the 200 Metres, SUPER GALILEO was steadied away from the heels of JUST CHILL which shifted out. For the majority of the race, SUPER GALILEO travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of WINNING SCHOLAR and THE KID after the race did not show any significant findings. TOPPING LIGHT and JUST CHILL were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that BLUE MAGIC had bled from both nostrils.
