As the start was effected, SILVER BLAZE lifted its front feet off the ground and was slow to begin. From a gate towards the outside, ABLE DRAGON was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the 1700 Metres, AMPLE GAINS was steadied away from the heels of GREAT LAND’S STAR (B Prebble) which shifted in when not quite clear. B Prebble was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. PRINCE KALAMOUN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Throughout the race, LOCAL POWER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble stated that GREAT LAND’S STAR travelled satisfactorily until the Home Turn at which time the horse was momentarily crowded for room between AMPLE GAINS and WARM EMBRACES. He said after this GREAT LAND’S STAR did not respond to his riding in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of GREAT LAND’S STAR after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT LAND’S STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte reported that despite his riding MAN IN THE MIRROR along from the 700 Metres, the horse did not respond to pressure and, in his opinion, raced “flat”. Trainer J Size stated that MAN IN THE MIRROR had pleased him with its track work since its most recent start and that a forward showing was anticipated today. He said he agreed with Jockey Whyte’s assessment that MAN IN THE MIRROR had raced “flat” today. He said he will monitor MAN IN THE MIRROR’S track work in the days after the race before deciding whether to give the horse a freshen up. A veterinary inspection of MAN IN THE MIRROR after the race did not show any significant findings. In the circumstances, the performance of MAN IN THE MIRROR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MAN IN THE MIRROR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING CHOICE after the race did not show any significant findings. MAN IN THE MIRROR, MIGHTY SUN and SILVER BLAZE were sent for sampling.
