After being loaded, LUNAR REFLECTIONS became fractious and momentarily got its left front leg on the front gate. In this incident, LUNAR REFLECTIONS lost the left front plate, resulting in it having to be removed from the barriers and replated. Due to the delay caused by LUNAR REFLECTIONS being replated, the field was unloaded from the stalls. Before being allowed to race again, LUNAR REFLECTIONS will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. As the start was effected, LOMBARDI lifted its front feet off the ground and was slow to begin, then shortly after the start shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of LUNAR REFLECTIONS which became unbalanced. Shortly after the start, NO MORE GREEN and GRANDWAY FLYER bumped on two occasions. For some distance approaching and passing the 900 Metres, LOMBARDI was steadied away from the heels of TURF MAGIC which itself was placed close to the heels of MASTER TOUCH. Passing the 900 Metres, CAGA SPIRIT got its head up and proved difficult to settle when racing tight between INVINCIBLE HEART and TURF MAGIC which itself was racing close to the heels of MASTER TOUCH. For some distance after this, CAGA SPIRIT continued to race ungenerously. Near the 850 Metres, NO MORE GREEN was steadied away from the heels of SUPREME WIN when tight between that horse and ELITE SIXTY-SIX. Passing the 200 Metres, the whip of D Beadman (ELITE SIXTY-SIX) was knocked from his hand by the whip of S K Sit (AMBITIOUS OWNER). For the majority of the race, TURF MAGIC travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of LOMBARDI after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPREME WIN and ELITE SIXTY-SIX were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SUPREME WIN had sustained a cut to the inside of the right hind heel.
