BOLD CHAMPION was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind). Before being allowed to race again, BOLD CHAMPION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the Stewards heard a submission from Mr C W Chang, the trainer of ENERGIZED, and C K Tong, the rider of the horse, that ENERGIZED be declared a non-runner. It was ascertained that just prior to the gates opening, ENERGIZED became fractious and then as the gates opened reared, struck its head on an overhead bar, resulting in C K Tong being dislodged. As the Stewards were of the view that ENERGIZED had not been impeded at the relevant time, the horse was declared a starter. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that there was blood in the left nostril of ENERGIZED, however, this was as a result of a head trauma and accordingly ENERGIZED was not deemed to have bled. Before being permitted to race again, ENERGIZED will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUCCESSFUL ERA was slow to begin. From an outside barrier, FLORAL NIRVANA was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After being wide and without cover in the early stages, SUPREME GOLD was allowed to stride forward approaching the 1200 Metres. Near the 1200 Metres, IMPLIED VOLATILITY was checked and blundered when crowded for room inside MAGNANIMOUS which shifted in away from SUPREME GOLD. As the Stewards could not apportion blame to any rider, no further action was taken. C W Wong (SPICY FRUITY) was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 200 Metres, resulting in KOWLOON PRIDE being steadied. SUCCESSFUL ERA, which was following, was shifted out away from the heels of KOWLOON PRIDE in consequence. For the majority of the race, GIVE WELL travelled wide and without cover. Following the race, A Gryder said that GIVE WELL hung out throughout the race and in the Straight raced ungenerously. A veterinary inspection of GIVE WELL after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. In the circumstances, the racing manners of GIVE WELL were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GIVE WELL will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. IMPLIED VOLATILITY and MAGNANIMOUS were sent for sampling.
